Crafted by Jack Thorne, the narrative unfolds 19 years following the events of The Deathly Hallows, as Harry Potter’s son, Albus, grapples with the weight of his father’s legacy while embarking on a time-traveling journey alongside Scorpius Malfoy, son of Draco Malfoy. This story, hailed as “the eighth Harry Potter story,” was developed in collaboration with J.K. Rowling.
Warner Bros. is embarking on a Harry Potter reboot for Max, introducing a fresh cast of actors. This high-budget endeavor is envisioned as a decade-spanning project, indicating that the series’ adaptation of The Deathly Hallows won’t materialize until the mid-2030s.
The prospects of adapting The Cursed Child in the Max series appear uncertain, primarily due to the 19-year time leap, which would necessitate waiting several more years for the new cast to age appropriately—unless CGI aging techniques are employed.

It received a record-breaking eleven nominations and won another record-breaking nine awards, including Best New Play, at the 2017 Laurence Olivier Awards. A Broadway production opened at the Lyric Theatre on 21 April 2018. That production received ten nominations and won six awards, including Best Play at the 2018 Tony Awards. An Australian production opened at the Princess Theatre in Melbourne, on 23 February 2019. A second American production opened in San Francisco at the Curran Theatre on 1 December 2019. The first non-English production opened at the Mehr! Theater in Hamburg, Germany, on 5 December 2021. A Canadian production opened at the Ed Mirvish Theatre in Toronto, on 19 June 2022. A Japanese production opened at the TBS Akasaka ACT Theater on 8 July 2022.
